S hot in Lucknow and nearby areas, short film ‘Choti Si Guzaarish’ is making waves globally. Directed by Lucknowite Pragesh Kumar Singh, the film has been shortlisted for Cannes International Film Festival in Short Film Category to be held in May.

The screening of the film was held in the state capital recently. The film has been premiered at 19 Indian and international film festivals and has won 12 awards in writing, direction and acting categories.

Based on relationship of father and son, the film stars actor Shishir Sharma, Smita Jaykar and late Inder Kumar.

“In olden times, it was regarded that at the age of 25, the generation changes but due to global factors. Now, the time gap has reduced. Today, even a 15-year-old will make you realize that there is a generation gap with his attitude and potential. The new generation doesn’t give importance to those values and emotions,” says Pragesh.

He is company secretary by profession but for the passion of films he left his career and ventured into films. He belongs to Amethi and now lives in Lucknow. “Today we are giving encouragement to valueless growth. When we drop emotions there is no meaning of life. The real development happens under the guidance of parents. If you see China, Japan and Germany, children over there respect their parents a lot but in India we are losing it,” he says.

Choti Si Guzaarish was shot last year.

Lead actor Shishir Sharma, who hails Bulandshaher says that today’s children are just concerned about themselves. The ‘me’ culture is very soon prevailing in our country.

“When I saw this film for the first time with my wife, a moment of silence took place between us and we didn’t talk for some time. This was because the portrayal of every character in the film was based on today’s harsh reality. The upcoming generation is becoming very selfish and are not able to fulfil even the miniscule needs of their parents.”

This is actor Inder Kumar’s last film as an actor before he passed-away on July 28, 2017 due to a cardiac arrest.

Pragesh’s next is ‘Heritage of Thrall’ which is set in Kolkata. The film is based on rickshaw pullers in the times of British Raj.
