For a healthy heart
From a nutritionist’s perspective, the average Indian’s diet is not healthy. Most urban Indians have started eating too much food and too frequently. Slightly more than half of our calories come from carbohydrates and fats. Not only do we eat too much – we also do nothing to burn those calories. This is leading people towards Type II diabetes and heart diseases. It is not uncommon to hear about young people getting diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes and Angina.
Angina is a type of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. When a heart artery is blocked by thickening of blood vessels’ walls, the heart does not get enough oxygen-rich blood. Angina typically occurs as squeezing, heaviness, tightness or constricting pain in the chest.
The most important factor that protects your heart is the way your blood clots. The viscosity of the blood, its stickiness and its tendency to form clots is what you need to guard against.
Anti Angina Juice:
250gm chopped fresh pineapple
1tbsp flax seed powder (alsi seeds)
1tsp lemon juice 1tbsp fresh ginger Rock salt to taste
Procedure:
1. Blend the pineapple pieces and ginger in a mixture to get fresh pineapple juice.
2. Strain it for any residues, add rock salt, lime juice and flax seed powder. Serve fresh topped with ice cubes.
Pineapple: It has a high amount of Bromelain, which is one of the most powerful protein digesting enzymes. It has anti clotting action that may help to prevent stroke and heart attack. It also has anti inflammatory properties. Herbalists and researchers look upon pineapple as more of an herb than a food. The enzyme bromelain present in the pineapple helps to increase blood flow. This fruit also contains fiber, vitamin C, and is rich in potassium and low in sodium, so a great fruit for hypertensive people.
Ginger: Ginger is another herb with anti clotting ability. The active constituent of ginger called zingiberene has blood thinning and cholesterol lowering properties, making it effective in treating heart diseases.
