DR ROSHAN JAHAN JAWAD AHMED SHAIKH, MUMBAI
CATEGORY: UNIQUELY ABLED
I was a bright student of Anjuman Islam in Bandra, Mumbai. One day, while returning home, after my exam, I was pushed from the Mumbai local train and lost both my legs, in the tragic accident. Despite the difficulties I faced, I cleared my examinations while being on the wheel chair and in the medical examination, I secured a third rank in physical handicapped quota. After approaching the Bombay High Court for admission, I was able to complete my MBBS in 2016, in first class from Kem Hospital, Mumbai.
During my MBBS, I started to motivate others for studying and inspired them to never give up. Through my story, I was able to influence a number of students. Not only was I 90% disabled but my financial status was also weak. My father is a vegetable vendor in Jogeshwari and I am a native of Azamgarh. Later in life, I took Kirit Somaiya’s help, the BJP MP and the humble leader, who heard my story and was ready to help me with my further studies by seeking the Health Ministry. I stand as a benchmark, for all disabled students, to prove to them that nothing is impossible. My future plan is to become a specialized doctor and help the people of my society. I want to spread awareness towards the education of girl child and tell the world that even a person with disability can achieve and accomplish his dreams.
