Getting a supporting role in SKTKS did not bother Ishita

Ishita Raj Sharma is in a happy space, with her film Luv Ranjan’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (SKTKS), not only crossing the 100-crore mark at the box office, but also making fans and people in the fraternity take notice of her. Is she thinking about how things would shape up from here? “I don’t want to stress so much about the future, and be negative. Abhi tak hua hai, toh aagey bhi ho jayega. Had I been negative and doomed myself with such thoughts, this much wouldn’t have happened,” she says, adding, “I don’t focus on tomorrow or fear failure. I’m a fighter. I can stand back again and strive for the best.”

Ishita reveals that when she made her debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011), it was the only film offered to her at the time. “Even then, I didn’t think about if I would get more films or not. I only believed that if you have it in you — the confidence, luck, and talent, you get picked up from anywhere,” she says.

It didn’t bother the actor that she had a supporting role in SKTKS, even as her co-stars from the Pyaar Ka Punchnama franchise — Kartik Aaryan, Sunny Singh, and Nushrat Bharucha — starred in titular roles. “I don’t feel that sense of insecurity with actors, especially when I have worked with this team for such a long time. I was concerned about how I played the part that was offered to me, rather than being upset that I didn’t get to play the lead,” explains Ishita.

“So, I never had time to think ki kisko kya role mila, kitna mila, aur koi kya kar raha hai. Mujhe kitna mila aur usko kaise perfect karna hai is what was on my mind,” says the actor, adding, however, that she would still want to do commercial solo leads.

“Yes, that’s a dream, which is still not realised. And I am sure I would get that chance too, soon. [Also], I am eagerly waiting to collaborate with other directors. If they have something good to offer, I would love to do more films,” she says, signing off.
