Zoe Saldana defends Cameron for superhero genre criticism

-

Avengers: Infinity War star Zoe Saldana has defended filmmaker James Cameron for his comment on the superhero genre, saying that people should read the full article. Cameron, 63, had said that though he enjoys watching the superhero films, the world has had enough of them and people will soon get “Avengers fatigue”.

Saldana, who has received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, was asked to comment on Cameron’s statement during an interview with the Los Angeles Times and the actor said that “educated intellectuals” should avoid soundbytes which are “meanspirited”.

“My advice for people is to read full articles and not just believe a soundbite. Because usually, soundbites are very mean-spirited and they’re just done for the intention of getting more likes and more views — it’s not really with the intention of educating and informing the public. So for all those educated intellectuals out there that like to stay current with news, read the article; you’ll understand where James Cameron was coming from. I know that all Marvel producers did because they read it,” said Saldana.

The 39-year-old actor will be reprising her role of Neytiri in the upcoming Avatar movies, all four of which are being directed by Cameron. The films will be released one after another in December in the years 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025.
