- Ramadas Acharya htcity@hindustantimes.com

Summers are in and so are holidays! And if you’re looking to go far from the madding crowd, look towards Liechtenstein. A country located between Austria and Switzerland his green, clean, beautiful nation surrounded by snow-clad Alpines on one side and the gracefully flowing Rhine on the other side. Though the country is small, it is one of the richest with a high GDP rate and people say the citizens welcome tourists with a real big heart.

Everything about Liechtenstein is impressive including the beautiful landscapes, vibrant culture, friendly locals, various entertainment centres, museums, charming villages, neat vineyards, historical forts, castles and unforgettable joyride trains along with comfortable and pleasant climate. All of it makes a visit to this country a memorable one.

This small country consists of 11 municipalities and one principality, which is the government. The capital city is Vaduz and is buzzing with tourists. The government of Liechtenstein is controlled by royal rule in a democratic way, which is liked and appreciated by the citizens who are an important part of it.

But, why this tiny country is so popular with the tourists? There are many theatres, art galleries, heritage buildings such as the Red House, which is considered to be the oldest house in the world, is maintained neatly even today. Every season of the year, there is some festival, carnival, fair or exhibition that goes on.

For adventure lovers, there are plenty of opportunities for skiing, trekking, river rafting, hiking and paragliding. We noticed the simplicity and concern of the royal family for the people of Liechtenstein. We came to know that many a time the prince comes out to the streets without security and mixes with the citizens and exchanges and discusses the problems openly without any formalities or protocol.

This country will be definitely remembered as the ‘small country with a big heart,’ for many reasons.

THOUGH THE COUNTRY IS SMALL, IT IS ONE OF THE RICHEST WITH HIGH INCOME LEVELS.
