Made by a Lucknowite and shot in the state capital, upcoming TV show Krishna Chali London is set to premiere next week.

Written, produced and directed by Saurabh Tewari, the show is set in Kanpur and Malihabad.

“The girl is from Malihabad while the boy is from Kanpur. She (Krishna) is a topper from the mango belt while Radhe is a simple guy whose wish is to get married soon. Lucknow comes into picture when the marriage takes place since it’s a central location for both the places. The shoot for both the places happened in state capital,” says Saurabh, maker of shows like Madhubala, Rangrasiya, Zindagi Ki Mehek.

He wrote the story some six years back. “I conceptulised and wrote it then but something or other kept happening. I rewrote the story couple of times as in all these years lot has changed in the social outlook and type of shows on TV.” The marriage part has been shot at Qaiserbagh Baradari and European Club near (KKC). “During the month-long schedule, we shot the promos at Narhi and near Chota Imambara. Besides, we have shown girl’s home at Golaganj and have shot extensively at Pandariba, Daliganj, Clay Square, Residency, near Taj Hotel and we took the final shot at Mankameshwar Temple. The main set has been created in Mumbai.”

The maker says that he has come out his comfort zone to make a simple slice of life show on Star Plus. “I have never done something like this before and I am taking a big risk with this. It’s 360 degree different from genre of shows like Madhubala, Rangrasiya, …Mehek and web series Chinese Bhasad. The heroes of my shows have been edgy while in this he is a simple guy while the girl is bit edgy. I wanted to keep it in real space and let’s hope audiences give it thumbs up,” he says.

“Lucknow-ki-bhasha plays an important role in the film. It’s a way of life here but outside UP people find it fascinating and has its own character,” he says.

On comparisons with Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Saurabh says, “It’s only an assumption that people are making. It has been conceived years before the movie was made. Once the show is on air people will come to know that it’s very different from it.” He confirms that as the title suggests, they will be shooting in foreign locations (London) too but that will happen after couple of months.

So, is he making it a finite show or will go with the flow. “Since this is a daily soap so it is surely not a finite show. We have a proper story line in place and are going according to it. But one can’t predict what happens after eight months or a year.”

Talking about the industry trend he says, “Around 52 daily shows are being aired on TV in which success rate is may be of 8 shows maximum. So, those which don’t work are closed and those which work and are kept alive due to business for the makers and broadcasters,” he says. “For instance, the story for our show Mehek was for eight months but even after 2 years it’s running well. Successful show balances the industry so no one can predict the life of a show,” he says.
