Priyanka takes out a week for Rohingya refugees!

- Prashant Singh

Priyanka Chopra is clearly living out of her suitcase nowadays. To start with, she flew from New York (USA) to London (UK) on May 18 to attend the wedding of her friend Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The next day, the actor left for Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, for a field visit to the Rohingya refugee camps, which is one of the largest in the world. Now, we have learnt that despite her super-packed schedule and “professional commitments spread across different continents”, Priyanka has decided to dedicate a week to interact with the Rohingya families, their kids, and attend various other meetings regarding the issue.

“Yes, it’s true. When Priyanka’s schedule for her Bangladesh visit was being worked out, she was very keen to spend a good amount of time with Rohingya families as she wanted to make her contribution towards it. As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, she has always gone out of the way to help with social causes. Last year, she had visited Jordan to meet with Syrian families, whose lives have been greatly affected by the conflict in that region,” says an insider, close to the actor.

Priyanka wrote on her Instagram page on Monday night: “In the second half of 2017, the world saw horrific images of ethnic cleansing from the Rakhine State of Myanmar (Burma). This violence drove nearly 700,000 Rohingya across the border into Bangladesh — 60% are children (sic).” An initiative by UNICEF, Priyanka’s visit to the refugee camps is a part of the Child Alert campaign. “As part of a series highlighting the challenges faced by children in current crisis situations, the campaign focuses on the situation of Rohingya refugee children and their families who are suffering harsh conditions in camps in southern Bangladesh after fleeing violence in Myanmar,” adds the insider. Attempts to reach Priyanka Chopra for her comments did not meet with a response.
