DANCE LIKE AN EGYPTIAN!
The rich culture of Egypt was showcased by the folk troupe from the land of Sphinx in the state capital recently. Pyramids, river Nile, Pharaohs and so cultural facets were presented during the dance performances.
Titled ‘El Horryia’ the event was organised by The Indian Council for Culture Relations (ICCR) as a part of African Festival held at Sant Gadgeji Maharaj Auditorium. ‘El Horriyia’ means freedom to dance. The members consisted of dancers and musicians who came from Alexandria to promote their cultural and folk traditions.
The event was inaugurated by Huda Saber Attiya, liaison officer, Ministry of Culture, Egypt in presence of event anchor Jeetesh Srivastava. The show was choreographed and directed by Nasr El Din Mohamed Mahmoud. “I love Luckhnawi traditions… and I just love India,” said Nasr on performing in India.
The performances kickstarted with the Dance of the Pharaonic, a tale of historic Egyptians. It was followed by El Tannoura, a Sufi dance was performed by Alexandrian boy. The dance was unique and used lighting on the dresses as prop. Everybody in the hall started cheering them.
The audience was already spellbound with the Egyptian culture and traditions, especially of the Alexandrians. Among the performers that were Khalid Saad Alia Rekabi Saleh, Tamer Salah El Din Mohamed, Mansour, Ibrahim, Ahmad, Nawal, Hend and Olaa.
Eight performances were held on the occasion. The event concluded with Dance of the Eskandrania which expressed flirting of the Alexandrian girls from the youth.
The troupe had already showcased their talent across various cities in India including Delhi, Jaipur and Varanasi. Their next show will be held in Agra.
Anchor Jeetesh Mishra said, “With such events we learnt a lot about the culture of the different countries.”
