Ramadan: How TV, Bollywood celebs are fasting and balancing work

Long shoot schedules, no break or lack of rest are not reasons enough for some of these celebrities to skip fasting during the holy month

- As told to Yashika Mathur

ZAREEN KHAN

Ramadan has always been very close to my heart because of childhood memories where my whole family would get together during iftar time. For me, Ramadan is about being positive about fasting and being happy. It should not be done out of compulsion. This helps me focus on work and fasting at the same time.

SANA KHAN

I fast for the entire month of Ramadan and don’t pick any project so that I can focus on this. I think it helps you give up all the bad habits and clean the body. It is like a detox for me. It makes one feel that it is possible to live without the pleasures of the world.

MOHAMMAD NAZIM

I fast the entire month during Ramzan. I get up at 3am, eat and pray at 4am. The entire day is the same then till the time of iftaari which is at 7pm. We break our fast eating dates as it is considered holy. I focus on my work and don’t think much about food or water. It is not difficult, as you can eat whatever you want to after the fast.

SEHBAN AZIM

Unfortunately, for the last few years, I’ve not been able to keep all the rozas. Giving up food is still easy for me but skipping water has become very tough. So I skip fasting on the days when I know I have a strenuous schedule. I usually prefer eating something light during the sehri and after the iftaar as well.
