Of late, biopics have been raking in big moolah at the box office. Now, in the latest instance, we have learnt that a biographical film is set to be made on the life of late Madhubala. Apparently, the yesteryear star’s youngest sister, Madhur Bhushan, is planning a magnum opus on the Mughal-E-Azam (1960) actor.

“Yes, it’s true. Actually, I have been thinking about this for quite some time. After the unveiling of my sister’s wax statue at Madame Tussauds (Delhi), I felt a strong urge to do it. Of late, many people have approached me — especially after Sanju and MS Dhoni biopic — to make a biopic on Madhubala. And me being her youngest sister and she being like a motherly figure to me, I want to do complete justice to her story,” says Bhushan. The late actor’s 85th birth anniversary was celebrated on February 14 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Adding that she “doesn’t want anything to go wrong” with the film on Madhubala, Bhushan feels “it’s high time that I go ahead with it”. “I also have some very good friends [in the industry], who really want to make this biopic. In fact, I fully depend on them as they are reliable and honest; and I am sure that they will do the job well. I am also in the process of writing a book [on Madhubala], but it’s not complete yet,” she says.

Ask Bhushan about who would play the iconic star on screen and who will direct the project, and she says: “I will disclose all the details very soon. In all likelihood, around Diwali, we will know who the director is, and who will play Madhubala besides other details. One thing is for sure, I won’t be directing the film as I am not a director. The heroine will be the director’s choice. But I don’t want to do anything in a haphazard way as I am not doing it just for the sake of it.”

Adding that the film has to be “done in a beautiful manner”, Bhushan insists she doesn’t want anyone else to attempt a biopic on her sister. “It’s my humble request to everyone in Bollywood and otherwise, to kindly not attempt a biopic or anything else on my sister’s life without my permission. I am going ahead with a biopic on Madhubala, which will be produced by my very dear friends. All the details will be made public at the right time,” she signs off.
