Dhadak is our homage to Sairat: Karan Johar

Janhvi Kapoor’s longawaited debut with co-star Ishaan Khatter hits the screens today. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Dhadak, which is the official adaptation of the Marathi blockbuster, Sairat, has already garnered rave reviews from the Bollywood fraternity. The newcomers are being praised for their nuanced performance and their sizzling chemistry.

Producer Karan Johar says that Dhadak is their way of paying tribute to the original film. “We will be eternally grateful to Nagraj Manjule (director of Sairat) and Zee Studios for allowing us to recreate Sairat. Jahnvi, Ishaan and Shashank have worked passionately to honour the legendary source material. Dhadak is homage to Sairat from a group of beating hearts.”

This is also Shashank’s third film after Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), both of which were huge hits. However, the filmmaker isn’t nervous. “I don’t usually feel too much pressure because I think we know what we were getting into when we took up the project. Since the day I saw Sairat, I knew I wanted to make this and I am glad Karan supported me in this vision,” he says.
