Script should excite me to the core, says Sushant

Sushant Singh is a household name. This versatile actor has been entertaining us with films and TV shows for over two decades now. He has gained immense popularity as the host of crime based show Savdhaan India, but Sushant feels still there is still a lot to be done as an actor.

“When I did Satya and I didn’t have a slightest idea that I will be a known face with a reasonable body of work. So somewhere I’m extremely happy with whatever I have achieved. At least I have reached a position in my career where I can say no to scripts if they fail to excite me,” he says.

Sushant was last seen in Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Baby’ and has been hosting Savdhaan India for the last six years.

“When this show came I knew this will be my chance to prove myself on TV. When the team told me that I’ll be myself on the show, narrating stories, I was all game for it. The association with the show has been long and when the channel planned to bring in the new season on Star Bharat with new stories, actors and superior production it was a kind of assurance that we are very much there holding our position as the most soughtafter crime-based show,” says the actor.

He has a body of work to be proud of that includes Satya, Jungle, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Yeh Saali Zindagi and Laga Chunari Mein Daag.

Sushant was also highly acclaimed for his role in Hate Story 2.

“Mandar’s character in HS-2 or Bandit Durga Narayan’s role in Jungle were one of the darkest characters of Hindi cinema. So what better in terms of acting I can get to do in negative genre. That’s why I just want to take up normal simple characters for now and due to this reason I chose Baby and Lipstick Under My Burkha. I don’t want to repeat myself and at the same time I want to take up scripts that excite me to the core,” he says.

“For now I’m happy with my show. I have also signed a Kannada film Pehlwaan for which I’m working hard on my physique. This film’s script is exactly what I wanted to try my hand at. The role is neither negative nor positive, its normal human being living in grey world,” says Sushant.

Coming back to his show and the increasing crime rate in the country he says, “I’m surprised to see the way crime rate has gone up in our country. And it’s shocking the way criminals are committing crimes with so much hi-tech planning and plotting. Through such shows at least people will learn to stay safe and cautious. Our safety is in our own hand in today’s time so we want people to learn from experience of others.”

Sushant is always in awe of the city of Nawabs and feels the place is actually lucky for him.

“I love this place, its people and everything about Lucknow is so very special. We started the show from here and again we are back with a new season from the city. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for my show to again do well and get good ratings,” he adds.
