I WANT TO PLAY A SUPERHERO: DISHA

Superheroes have always spawned big box-office results in Hollywood. But in comparison, Bollywood films don’t have too many of them to boast of, barring mainly Krrish. But Disha Patani excitedly admits that she wants to join the bandwagon. “I rea want to play a superhero,” she says with a smile. “Not many know that I love Wonder Woman, and even Hulk and Avengers. They don’t have female versions yet so, maybe, I can do that (laughs). Actually, they are my dream roles. Let’s see if I get any such opportunity.”

Interestingly, Disha has tasted success with both her Bollywood films — MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016) and Baaghi 2 — but she feels success never depends on “just the luck factor”. “Yes, you can get something due to good fortune but then, that will stay only for a very small span of time. I believe everything goes hand in hand. If you work hard, only then will your luck chip in,” says the actor, adding that she would “readily give all the credit [for her entry and success into the film industry] to her mother.”

“My actual journey [towards showbiz] started with a competition that took place in Mumbai. At that time, I was studying biotech, so it was my mother who pushed me saying, ‘go for it [modelling]’. That’s why, at one point, even I thought, ‘maybe I should try’. I remember it was my summer break when my mother asked me to go for it. So, my mum has always been there,” says the actor, who also wants to “give credit to my family for always being extremely supportive”.

“It’s not as if only happy things happen [in your career] all the time; there are downfalls as well. So, you need someone to help you go through those downfalls and come out as a positive person. In that sense, my family has played a very special role,” says the actor, who has reportedly injured both her knees during one of the intense training sessions for her next film, Bharat, that stars Salman Khan in the lead role.

“I am playing a trapeze artiste [in Bharat] so it’s quite challenging because neither am I a circus artiste nor a gymnast. Also, it’s not something that I have been pursuing since I was a kid, so to learn everything in about a month’s time is quite hard because your body is not meant to do those lifts etc. So, I’m literally going through the grind everyday while trying to learn [new] things,” says Disha, who also starred alongside Jackie Chan in Kung Fu Yoga (2017).
