People knew I was falsely accused: Jubin

Even people who don’t know me well didn’t believe that I could do something of this sort. I’ve been raised by three women,” says singer Jubin Nautiyal, who was accused recently of molesting a woman and thrashing her friend in Dehradun. The incident took place in June, at a party Jubin had thrown for his family and friends on his birthday.

Now that he has got a clean chit — the woman in question has apologised — Jubin is a relaxed man. “I just was not comfortable with all this. When all this was happening at the venue, I wasn’t even there! I had gone with my family, who, I am blessed, supported me after this happened. But, while some friends support you, some start going away...” he says.

Luckily, his fans and music collaborators stood by him. “Things are great. The people I’m working with, they know me well and hang out with me. They don’t care about this. My fans believed that I’d never have done this at a family gathering. People knew I was falsely accused; that was quite clear from the beginning,” he says. Nonetheless, he did feel the stress. “I was affected by it, as I had never been in such a situation. Two random people involved my name. I was sad in my head,” says Jubin, whose next line-up of songs includes one for the film Loveratri, which marks the debut of Aayush Sharma, the brotherin-law of Salman Khan.

He dealt with it, though. “I came back to Mumbai after a month of all this,” says Jubin. “I told the police that I don’t want to create a compromise situation. You investigate; if I’m wrong, put me behind the bars... I was feeling off for a little while, but then I started singing again.”
