THE GREAT 2018 COMICCON ROUNDUP
We take a look at the most popular fan conventions and launches that took place during the fourday 2018 San Diego Comic Con, which wrapped up on Sunday
THE REST OF THE FESTIVAL
Apart from trailers and announcements for films and shows, this edition of the festival also saw over 1,00,000 guests, which made sure that the festival was more about TV shows and movies. Another announcement revealed that Batman will ditch pants for trunks. And in a special moment, actor Jamie Lee Curtis hugged a fan who had told her that Jamie’s character in Halloween (1978) inspired him to save his own life.
FOR THE TUBE
Apart from the season trailers of The Flash and Arrow, the TV verse saw historic announcements. Supergirl announced the first-ever transgender superhero, Nia Nal, to be played by Nicole Maines. The DC universe’s first trailer for the awaited liveaction Teen Titans series, titled Titans, was also premiered. The trailer had Robin aka Dick Grayson shouting, “F**k Batman”, inviting mixed reactions from fans. Also, Don Cheadle will voice Donald Duck on DuckTales on the series’ Season 1 finale.
FOR THE SILVER SCREEN
For film geeks, the 2018 Comic Con saw the trailer releases of several much-awaited upcoming superhero films such as Aquaman and Shazam! But the most talked-about trailer at the four-day festival was the trailer of M Night Shyamalan’s highly-anticipated Glass, which melds the world of the director’s previous films, Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016). The movie will see actors Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis and James McAvoy reprise their roles in the previous films. In other news, though the makers did not present a teaser for the second instalment in the Wonder Woman franchise, they did share details from the film, set in 1984, including Kristen Wigg’s look as Cheetah and the return of Chris Pine, whose character, a WW1 pilot, died in the first film.
