Apopular face on television, Mouni Roy’s stardom on the small screen led her to a bigbudget film debut in the Akshay Kumar-starrer Gold (which has made ₹100 crore at the box office). Now, there is no stopping Mouni Roy. Even before she debuted in films, she had already signed three other films. Apart from the John Abraham-starrer RAW, she will soon be seen in Karan Johar’s Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, and the Rajkummar Rao-starrer Made In China.

Mouni, who claims to be nervous and excited while shooting with these stars, says hard work paved her path to Bollywood. “I am nervous but I also feel good and thankful for the opportunities [that I have got]. I did my best at the auditions for these movies. I don’t think long-term but, yes, I have been wanting to do movies for a long time. I was happy doing TV and the success of Naagin gave me everything that I have today,” says Mouni. Alongside doing TV, she kept giving auditions. “One fine day, things fell into place, and I got my first break, Gold. All the other films are a result of auditions, success of my TV show, and people’s reactions to the film’s trailer. I feel it’s also destiny. You can’t change what’s written in your destiny,” she says.

Since last year, Mouni has been shooting for her films back-to-back. Earlier this year, she shot for Brahmastra after which, she started work on the movie with John, followed by Rajkummar’s film. The actor says she is loving the pace of shooting projects simultaneously. “I’ve done television for nine years, where I have shot for shows for 19 to 20 hours daily. I am having a lot of fun shooting all of these movies, but it is a bit of struggle to get the characters right. I don’t want to let anybody down because they have shown faith in me,” says the actor.

Mouni almost had a nervous breakdown every single time she prepped for a character. “The process is gruelling yet satisfying. I think there is no short-cut to success. All you can do is give your best shot and then leave it to God and the audience. That’s what I’ve always done and will continue to do. Working with Akshay sir, Ranbir and John sir is a dream and I still have a long way to go,” she says.
