Actor Vanessa Marquez, who had a recurring role in the hit TV series, ER, was fatally shot by police as she waved what turned out to be a BB gun, authorities said on Friday.

Officers had gone to her home in the Los Angeles suburb of Pasadena on Thursday to conduct a welfare check when the 49-year-old Marquez grabbed what looked like a handgun and pointed it at officers, said Sergeant Joe Mendoza, of the LA Sheriff’s Department.

He said after the incident “officers checked the weapon and they discovered it was a BB-type gun that resembled a semi-automatic handgun.”

Mendoza said Marquez’s landlord had called police to check on her and when officers arrived she appeared to be having a seizure. He said the officers and a mental health clinician spoke with Marquez “for over an hour and a half in an attempt to offer her medical care. She then armed herself with a handgun and pointed it at the officers, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred,” he said.

Marquez played nurse Wendy Goldman on ER from 1994 to 1997 and also appeared on several other shows, including Seinfeld and Melrose Place. Last year, she made headlines after accusing ER co-star George Clooney of blacklisting her from the hit show for speaking out about sexual harassment and racial discrimination.

Clooney issued a statement at the time denying he had anything to do with casting decisions. “I was not a writer or a producer or a director on that show. I had nothing to do with casting. I was an actor and only an actor,” he said.

Radio jockey and actor Teejay Sidhu became the mother of twin daughters in 2016. After a two-year break, during which she devoted time to her babies and her blog, she’s back on the small screen and that, too, with a show that revolves around parenting.

The actor is excited about facing the camera again and shares that it “felt like coming home” so she “loved it”.

“I’ve always loved the medium of television. Except for shooting ads, I’ve been away from hosting and TV for about two years now and I really missed it,” says Teejay.

Talking about raising their daughters, Bella and Vienna, Teejay says that she and her husband, actor Karanvir Bohra, are having the best time of their lives. “KV and I are both loving parenthood! It’s such a fun, unpredictable, magical journey. The only part of it that makes us sad is that it’s going by way too fast,” she says. “Whether it’s blowing bubbles outside or playing in the park or learning ABCs, it’s the time spent together that they (and we) cherish the most. I think that’s the greatest gift we can give our children.”

So, how are they going to divide their time now with the children, now that both will get busy with their work? “We are lucky that in our line of work, our children can come to work with us.

They love being on set and this way, we get to spend the maximum time with our children. When one parent shoots, the other is there on the set, taking care of the babies,” says Teejay.

Asked if she plans to be do a fiction show, the actor adds, “I’d love to do more nonfiction. Fiction becomes a little difficult. I don’t want to sign a two-year contract and shoot for twelve hours a day. It’s too much time to spend away from Bella and Vienna. I’d love to do more film projects.”
