‘Mahabharata would be a dream as a web show’
Saif Ali Khan is enjoying the success of his debut venture on the digital platform. The actor, who is currently holidaying in Maldives with his family, will then straight dive into the next schedule of Navdeep Singh’s directorial. After that, he will begin shooting for the second season of his web series in October. Being one of the early ones to test an uncharted territory, Saif is glad that his choice has paid off.
Will his success encourage more established actors to move in the digital direction? Saif replies, “I think there are so many stories that can’t be made into a movie. The Mahabharata would be a dream (if made into a digital series), or for that matter even the Ramayana, the story of the Moghuls, including the story of [emperor] Aurangzeb. There’s an endless list of sagas that we can get into. I feel that’s what the [web] platform should be for. And the better or the more charismatic you become as an actor, the better for the show. So, I don’t see why not.”
The Kaalakaandi actor began experimenting with roles even in his movies much before other mainstream actors. Did he worry about his choices ever going awry? “The point is to try and be as creative as possible. There’s a lot of exciting stuff happening out there. As [often] as me coming up with an idea, there has been someone who has come to me with an idea. And I think it has been great,” he says. “My view of things is about how one lives overall. I like spending time with family and friends. I like travelling and being on holidays. So, if whatever work I take up... if that work can be somehow creative and exciting, then it’s even better. Also, I’d rather get it wrong but try and be a little adventurous than try to play is safe [always],” he adds.
Saif says that the whole point “is to learn something and be in that zone where you’re trying something a little different. And things are changing fast even with the way screenplays are being presented to me. There has been a big difference over the years. There are lots of exciting roles coming by.”
