One film is like a lifetime of experience: Janhvi

She tasted success with her first film itself, Dhadak. And even before the dust could settle down, Janhvi Kapoor went on to sign her second film, Karan Johardirected magnum opus, Takht. In fact, the late Sridevi’s daughter admits that her new film journey will be “different”, thanks to her experience with the first film.

“I truly believe that [being a party of] one film is like a lifetime of experience. Now, I am blessed to have got an opportunity to act again, in which – I think – I will have a completely different approach. Ek film mein kaam karke aise lagta hai ke ek puri zindagi kisi aur ki jee hai aapne. That, in itself, changes your perspective towards a lot of things,” says the young actor, adding that she will always “have a great equation” with her co-star and friend, Ishaan Khatter.

Ask her if having Karan as a guiding force helps a lot and she says: “Of course, I feel incredibly lucky. I feel blessed, more so because of the kind of personal investment he has in you and the kind of experience and knowledge Karan possess. It’s a God’s gift if you can borrow from that and have it at your disposal. That’s why I think of myself as a very fortunate girl.”

Since Janhvi played a rather challenging part in her first film, Dhadak, many may feel that it would help her in the long run but she has a completely different take. “You know, I’ve always read people’s interviews and felt, ‘imagine if I say [is film ke liye] maine yeh kiya hai, woh kiya hai, itna kuch kiya hai’. And then, movie dekhne ke baad, what if someone’s like, ‘yeh sab iske liye kiya tha?’ It will be like a joke then. The idea should be to keep the expectations really low. If someone watches my film and still thinks that I am worthy of such a question, then I will answer,” she says.
