Kalpana Lajmi no more #RIP

She was a woman of many talents

Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi died of kidney cancer, on Sunday morning, in Mumbai. She was 64. She is known for making acclaimed films such as Rudaali and Daman

Filmmaker Onir shared a “fulfilling profession­al” relationsh­ip as well as a “deep friendship” with filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, who died on Sunday morning.

“Our relationsh­ip was more about friendship and understand­ing,” says Onir, who worked with Lajmi on films such as Darmiyaan (1997) and Daman (2001).

The director wrote a heartfelt post on his social media account, too: “RIP #KalpanaLaj­mi . I started working with her as editor of promos for #darmiyaan in 1997 followed by #Daman which was the first time I worked in a film set ... As a song director and editor in 1999. Remember with fondness many evenings of food and music along with #bhupenhaza­rika in her #lokhandwal­a apartment . Will cherish what I learned while working with her ...”

He remembers Lajmi as a woman of many talents and someone who taught him many “valuable lessons” . He say, “Lajmi had a very good understand­ing of music. I have learned a lot from her as an editor, producer and director, and those lessons will always be with me.”

An emotional Onir, says, “Those were the initial days of my career but she treated me with love and respect. She was one of the greatest people,” Onir adds, “Not many know that Lajmi was a foodie. She loved cooking, too.”
