It came from the respect the former couple had for each other, says Theroux
Actor Justin Theroux has finally broken his silence over his famous split from Jennifer Aniston, calling it a gentle separation.
Talking with the New York Times about the reason behind the split, Theroux said that there are small events that took place but they seemed big because of the big headlines and speculations, and that “there was no animosity”.
Commenting on their present situation and how well they both dealt with the split, the Mulholland Drive (2001) actor said that neither one of them is dead nor any of them is looking to throw hatchets at each other. “It’s more like, it’s amicable. It’s boring, but, you know, we respected each other enough that it was as painless as it could be,” Theroux said.
He did add that he was heartbroken about the fact that their friendship would not be the same. But it seems like both Theroux and Aniston are on the same page as far as their relationship is concerned. “But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we’re both very proud of,” he said. In August, the F.R.I.E.N.D.S star had said that the split didn’t leave her anguished. “With due respect, I’m not heartbroken. Second, those are reckless assumptions (about her refusing to start a family because of placing priority on her career). No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors,” Aniston said.
The former couple called it quits in February, saying in a statement to E! Online that the decision was “mutual and lovingly made”.
Aniston and Theroux began dating in May 2011 and got engaged in August 2012, followed by a 2015 wedding at their Los Angeles home.
