Stardom doesn’t happen overnight, says Pamela

- Shreya Mukherjee

It was Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani that helped Pamela Singh Bhutoria find a foothold in Bollywood. But that was 2012. In between, the actor did a few Bengali films and television commercials, before landing a role in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3, which came out earlier this year. Though the film, which had Sanjay Dutt, Mahie Gill and Jimmy Sheirgill in the central roles, failed to make a mark at the box office, many found Pamela as ‘Deepal’, impressive in the thriller.

The model-turned-actor from Kolkata, who has recently finished shooting for a web series and is also reading a few scripts right now, shares that she is working hard to make sure that the audience gets to see what she is capable of, as an actor. “After Kahaani, where I played quite a tiny part, people did see my work. So I was happy. I feel it does not matter how much screen time your character is getting, but what does is, whether it adds to the plot matter more. In my second [Bollywood] project my character was wellsketched, and had a very important role to play in taking the story forward. And after the film released, people did praise me. I don’t think stardom will happen overnight, and I am investing proper time and energy to reach the top. I am slowly getting there as I believe that you get what you deserve,” she says.

To better her craft, Pamela is also pursuing an acting course and reading books. “I think along with talent you also need to have proper guidance. That always helps. When you learn, interact with a lot of other people from your field during the process it helps you grow. The nuances that I am learning is going to help me perform better,” says the actor.
