‘Getting to the top can also be scary’

With five Hindi films to her credit, actor Kriti Kharbanda is still starting out, and coming to terms with a newcomer’s insecurities, which include the wait for one’s next project.

But there’s no choice but to keep going, says Kriti. “It’s like dealing with any other problem in life. These things are beyond my control. I am not saying that I am not insecure. Everyone feels this way at some point. Those who say that they don’t are lying. The only way from the bottom is to the top. Once you get to the top, it’s very scary, because the only way then is to the bottom. Or you retire,” she says.

She elaborates on how this anxiety sometimes extends into other facets of one’s life, too. “Everyone is on their own journey, and have their own set of insecurities. It’s not necessarily work. It could be a complex where one thinks, ‘I am not good enough’. My biggest insecurity is that I don’t want to disappoint myself. What’s for me will come to me,” an unflappable Kriti states.

However, it isn’t as if the Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017) actor places more trust in destiny than hard work. “I am not saying I don’t believe in hard work. It isn’t as if likha hai toh hoga. Someone out there is watching over me, that’s my superpower. In my case, it’s my grandparents. I don’t know if there’s a God or not. I deal with (doubts and anxiety) like anyone else...[I] cry myself to sleep sometimes… I am being just dramatic, but like normal people, [I also] meditate and talk to my friends, which gives one perspective,” says Kriti, signing off.
