Actor Varun Dhawan feels men have an important role to play in making sure that gender equality is a reality for everyone in our society. In his opinion, men should stop feeling threatened and instead work towards creating a better work environment for all.

“Men can be a big part of the dialogue and they should be a part of the change. I think men need to stop feeling threatened by this change. They should be more accepting about it,” says Varun.

“I think it is only going to be beneficial if there is equality, because, first and foremost, more talent will shine through. Let people come through (on the basis of) talent. Let us not discriminate because of gender,” adds the actor. Varun, son of director David Dhawan, worked as an assistant director to filmmaker Karan Johar on the 2010 film My Name Is Khan. In 2012, he made his acting debut in Bollywood with Student of the Year.

And, after it, there has been no stopping for him. From showing his moves in the dance film ABCD 2 (2015) and playing the role of a small town boy from Jhansi in Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) to displaying his intense side in October, Varun has left no stone unturned in proving his mettle.

This time, he is back on the big screen as a tailor named Mauji in Sui Dhaaga - Made in India.

The film highlights the untapped potential of India’s talented craftsmen and skilled workers and the challenges and issues faced by them. The film, helmed by Sharat Katariya, also stars Anushka Sharma.

“It is a film I am damn proud of. I am very excited about it. My family members have seen it. In fact, even some enemies have seen the film.” Enemies? He means his brother Rohit Dhawan! The actor explains, “Our siblings are our biggest critics. If the sibling likes the film, it is a very big deal.”

Talking more about the film, he says, “We were pretty much doing the things we wanted to do. As actors, we were given a lot of freedom,” shares Varun.

The actor goes on to say t hat although the fear of failure is attached to every project, he is confident about his latest movie. “I want a lot of people to go and watch my film” he signs off.
