A 30minute film has done more than all my previous films: Sanjay Kapoor

Actor Sanjay Kapoor is a busy man these days, owing to the many projects he is a part of. What made people take notice of him after all these years is Lust Stories, an anthology, comprising of four short films.

What’s next on his list is regional cinema, and he is all set to appear in his first Kannada film as well. On that, he says, “It’s a debut late in the day, and at this time, I feel like a newcomer!” he laughs, and goes on to add what made him take up so much work after all these years. “It always feels good that you are doing and learning something new. It’s not that I thought about it or anything, but sometimes things happen in your life. Right now, extremely good things are happening. I keep saying this, but a 30-minute film called Lust Stories has done more for me than all the films I have done. I have done more than 35 films, I have given blockbusters, but timing is very important. It’s never too late,” says Sanjay.

He was, in fact, surprised when he was offered the Kannada film. “I was fortunate enough, that sitting in Bangalore, they thought of me! The director, of course, was lovely, and the film is being produced by the Chief Minister of Karnataka, his son is the hero. I couldn’t have started my career there in a better way!” he says.

The toughest part, he says, is grasping the language. “Frankly, when I did my first film Prem (1995), I got butterflies, and I still do whenever starting a new project. As far as Kannada is concerned, the language part was scaring me. But my director was fantastic, he really helped me. I would mug up my lines by reading them 10-12 times as I did for exams in school. But the role is not too lengthy, it’s a cameo. I don’t want to lead my fans as if I am doing the lead role,” says Sanjay, who is currently busy with a web series and The

Zoya Factor, with Sonam K Ahuja, his niece.
