Oscar Isaac not worried about fans’ expectations

-

Actor Oscar Isaac says he is not bothered about the expectations of fans and compares the backlash his Star Wars films received with George Lucas’ prequel series.

The 39-year-old actor, who starred in two Star Wars films — The Force Awakens (2015) and The Last Jedi (2017) — told Indiewire that he does not pay attention to negativity on social media. “Luckily, since I’m not directing it, producing it, or distributing it, I don’t have to worry so much about fan expectations. Also, not all fans have the same expectations,” he said.

The Ex Machina (2014) star said people had “strong feelings” about Lucas’ prequel series — The Phantom Menace (1999), Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith — but they still accepted them.

“People had very strong feelings, but there wasn’t as much of an organised way to speak out about it. People who run blogs and websites need content. So it’s like, ‘There’s some content!’ Five people on Twitter. Hundreds. Whatever it is. Then you make it into a story,” Isaac said.

“You make a movie and people are supposed to like, or not like it, or not care about it. Those are the only three options. So it’s not shocking that one of those things happened,” he added.

Isaac said he plans to take a vacation after wrapping up the shooting of upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX. “I haven’t really stopped for 10 years. I’m just going to be with family, take a bit of a rest,” he said.

He will be next seen in Netflix’s Triple Frontier, opposite Ben Affleck, and is part of voice cast of animated feature The Addams Family.
