Singer-actor Jassie Gill had to wait for a year to release his latest single Nikle Currant. Why? “It’s a very funny story,” says Jassie.

“We had finished the song — the production and mixing. It was ready to be released. But, the day video had to be made, it started raining. And then for the next few weeks or so, whenever we decided that we will shoot the video today, it would rain. And then we just dropped things, and time went by,” he recalls.

But instead of complaining, the 29-year-old singer-actor shares that this break proved to be a blessing in disguise for him. He feels that the last year gave him more fans, which means that “more people” are going to listen to his latest song. “It turned out to be a blessing in a way. I got to act in a Bollywood film, and so people, who probably didn’t know that I was a musician before, now know that. More people now know me,” says Jassie, who made his Bollywood debut with Happy Phirr Bhaag Jayegi.

The increase in the number of fans also means that Jassie now has to cater to panIndia audience. “Until a few years ago, I only made songs thinking about Punjab and the fans there. But now, as the fanbase is growing, people across the country have started listening to my music. So, I have to think about them [as well]. It’s very different, because in a broader sense, now people from different cultural backgrounds [would] listen to my music. That’s a great thing because that only means that I have to evolve as a musician,” he says.

However, he believes that he is still a “musician” at heart. “I love to act. But I am still a musician at heart and I will keep on making music. The fact that I have started working in Bollywood does not mean that my music takes a back seat,” he gushes.

Jassie’s latest single reunites him with singer Neha Kakkar after three years. Their first single was Khet (Oh Yaara Ainvayi Ainvayi Lut Gaya) which was released in 2015. “It’s always great to work with Neha,” he concludes.
