I too have fears, says Bhumika

Actor Bhumika Gurung does not prefers to talk much about the ongoing #MeToo campaign but puts forward her message loud and clear. “Speak up! Harassment of any sort, be it of a female or a male, must be taken seriously and reported to police. One should overcome fear and overlook taboos and bring anything wrong to light,” says the actor.

On the occasion of Dussehra, the ‘Nimky Mukhiya’ actor was in Lucknow to support her TV channel’s philosophy ‘Bhula de daar, kuch alag kar’ and spread awareness to overcome fear.

“I too have many fears in life. Like, playing a Bihari girl! I hardly know about the language and culture of the place, but then once I was offered the role I overcame my fear and this Maharashtrian girl transformed into a Bihari girl on screen. I feel very happy when people mistake me for a girl of Bihar origin. Had I not fallen prey to the fear I would have not been here,” she says.

To justify her role, she did some workshops with the makers. “I have not learnt acting nor have I done theatre before. Moreover, I have no connection from Bihar nor anyone of my relatives comes from that place. So, I did a couple of workshops to perfect the language and dialect. Also, this is my debut as lead, so I could have not gone wrong. I had no choice but to learn and perform.”

She was born in Delhi but since last 16 years has lived in Mumbai from where she has done her studies. “The best part is that both me and Nimki are very similar and close to each other. She has some grey shades and I too share those little selfish, witty and shrewd shades. We both are bindaas and my character comes naturally to me,” she says.

Bhumika talks about some ‘disconnects’ too. “Nimki can hide her emotions very well. But, I am a very emotional person and very expressive. Anyone can read my face and understand what I am feeling. Also, her energy level is very high. Even if she is crying, she is so energetic. She may not be very beautiful but no one can ignore her. I will have to imbibe these characteristics from her,” she says.

The actor took part in the Ravan Dahan ritual in the historical Ramlila maidan in Aishbagh where she met the public and interacted with her fans. “It was a great experience being a part of such a mega event. This time I got a chance to buy some chikankari dresses and savour non-vegetarian dishes during my stay. Next time, I wish to spend more time here and roam around the city,” she says on a signing off note.
