I don’t push myself to become what I am not, says Nimrat
Actor Nimrat Kaur, who will be seen reprising her role as the antagonist in the final season of international TV show Homeland, has been in a handful of Bollywood films. The Lunchbox’s (2013) commercial and critical success was followed by Airlift (2016), but she hasn’t been seen in any Hindi films after that. However, Nimrat insists that she is happy with what she has achieved so far.
“I think I am myself,” she begins. “I don’t push myself to become what I am not because it’s the ‘norm’ or a popular thing. I do my thing and stay true to who I am. I go with the flow. I really enjoy every process I get into for my parts. I am happy in my zone,” she adds.
She emphasises on how one needs to retain their originality and not give in to the herd mentality. “You try to be something else, [but] you won’t be able to be true to what you have been trying to do, for long. You can’t pretend,” says Nimrat.
Trying to do so can affect one mentally, and Nimrat feels that people should be happy with whatever they have achieved in their lives.
“Be yourself. That sustains you longer and you don’t burn out. You remain a happy person. You are then in a place where you are able to enjoy everything that is offered. Otherwise it leads to a lot of frustration, cynicism and different kinds of mental issues,” she says.
“I feel that taking stress and unnecessary burdens about things can be a byproduct of working as an actor. I have kind of managed to find a very zen approach about stuff. I don’t take stress about whatever I am not able to do,” Nimrat signs off.
