‘MY DRESS DOESN’T DEPICT HOW AVAILABLE I AM’

That there is immense scrutiny on celebrities in this ‘hyper’ social media age can’t be denied. And actor Aisha Sharma recently got a bitter taste of it when she was shamed for her choice of outfit at a party. The actor, who slammed her trolls on social media, says what she wears shouldn’t be linked to her “availability.”

The furious actor says, “Everyone should have the right to wear what they want. It is my body and my decision. If you are not okay about what I am wearing and are outraged, you don’t have to wear it. The way I dress does not depict how available I am. You should not judge a person’s character based on what they are wearing. There should be freedom of choice and shouldn’t be anybody else’s business.”

Aisha, who made her Bollywood debut with Satyameva Jayate last year, says what she found “most shocking” during the whole ordeal, was that “most of the hateful comments came from women”.

“That, in particular, is so alarming. When a woman puts down another woman, it does not leave you with any hope. It is so easy to spread hate. I was told that I dressed up to entice guys and climb up the ladder in my career. What has clothing got to do with my film career?” she asks.

Further slamming the troll brigade, Aisha, younger sister of actor Neha Sharma, says, “It is very easy to hide behind the computer and write hateful comments. But would they have the guts to say such things on someone’s face? I don’t think so.”

Aisha says that most of the hate stems from the fact that people can’t stand women who are making their way on their own. “If you want to do things on your own terms, it is difficult for people to digest it,” she says, adding, “a lot of this comes from a person’s own insecurity and the constant need of comparison with others.”

Yeah, well now that I have kids you don’t want to see me in a bikini so it’s quite the dilemma.

IN RESPONSE TO THE TROLL, WHO WANTED HER TO POST ONLY ‘BIKINI PICS’
