Mouni Roy is slowly but steadily climbing the ladder of success. Her third film, Made In China, is all set to hit the theatres this Diwali. In her words, it’s “a very special film”. She explains, “It’s a beautiful story. It’s also the first time that I’m working with Raj (Rajkummar Rao), Dinu (Dinesh Vijan), and Mikhil (Musale; director) sir. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I learned a lot, especially the nuances of acting.”

So, what was her biggest takeaway from her character? “Playing Rukmini needed some unlearning on my part, like how to approach characters differently, and how sometimes certain scenes develop differently when you improvise spontaneously,” she shares.

Talking about working with Rajkummar, she says, “When I first heard that I’m cast opposite Raj, I was a little intimidated and scared as to how I’ll be able to say my lines.

But during the process, I ended up learning a lot.”

Mouni’s overwhelmed with her journey as her big dream of becoming one of the top television stars, and then a film actor, has been fulfilled. “I had never planned to be an actor. Acting, dancing, and singing were just my hobbies as a child,” she says, adding, “I love my job. We should let life surprise and excite us.”

The actor also stresses on the importance of her successful television stint. “I was happy to do television. At that time, I got so much love. I owe everything that I am today to television. I’m a greedy actor, and I’m very happy with the way my career has shaped up,” states the actor, who made her debut with the TV show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

Mouni is currently in a happy state of mind. “With the kind of movies being made, the web booming so much and brilliant characters being written, it’s an exciting time to be an actor,” she grins.

Is there a dream role in her bucket list? “I want to do a dance drama, like Broadway. Or maybe like an Indian classical dance drama. It would be my dream film and dream role,” she says excitedly.
