Versatile is a word which everyone associates with actor Rajkummar Rao. For every Omerta (2017) and Trapped (2016), which pushed him both physically and mentally, he had a Stree (2018), and his latest comedy film, Made in China, to create a balance.

Rajkummar plays the role of a Gujarati entrepreneur in Made in China, and though the collections of the film have been a bit slow, viewers agreed that his performance was as real as it could get.

Most actors might be apprehensive about taking up such intricate roles, but Rajkummar was all for it.

The ecstatic 35-year-old says, “I’m extremely happy to see viewers embrace me in the comedy genre. The film was a refreshing experience for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and to have the audiences enjoy it just as much, is gratifying.”

A source says that people weren’t expecting Rajkummar to take up a film like this after a string of intense performances.

“After his impactful and rather intense performances, one would not expect him in a comic caper. However, his relaxed approach and innocent treatment of his character became the highlight of the film,” says the source.

Rajkummar will follow up Made in China with RoohiAfza opposite Janhvi Kapoor, and Turram Khan alongside Nushrat Bharucha. Apart from Hindi films, he will also star with Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a web adaptation of the novel The White Tiger. The year 2020 is, therefore, set to be a packed one for him.
