Slowly but surely, composer Vishal Mishra has created a niche for himself in the music industry. After creating hits such as Nai Lagda and Bhumro for the film Notebook, the 28-year-old is now riding high on the success of the songs from Saand Ki Aankh (SKA).

“This was a very difficult album. It took a lot of thought to put it together. I’m really grateful to my team and the team of Saand..., who inspired me... I feel extremely proud of these songs and, as an artist, it feels very satisfying,” he tells us. He adds that while he enjoys composing singles for the big screen, he loves to create entire movie albums since it is a different challenge.

“I love composing solo albums. It’s a motivation for me because the responsibility of profit or loss is totally on me. I hope I continue to do that. I’ve been blessed to get some beautiful solo projects where people have loved my work — first Notebook and now this one,” he says.

Explaining why he loves composing albums over singles, Vishal adds, “While working on a solo album, you live a different life altogether. You are into the script. For instance, I worked on this film for almost three years. It was a challenging one because there were two 70-year-old protagonists without any romantic, sad, or dance numbers. We still had to be commercially viable.”

Vishal also reveals that working with Asha Bhosle (for the song Aasmaa in SKA) was an instinctive decision. “Asha Bhosle ji was an instinct that I had... I’m very connected to the music I make. So, it’s important for me that people take it emotionally when they hear it. I just follow my heart. I make music to make people comfortable,” he signs off.
