After turning down four web series, here’s what Renee Dhyani is doing these days

Actor Renee Dhyani prefers staying away from things that compromise with her thought process, and award shows are one of them.

Being part of TV shows such as Yeh Teri Galliyan and Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki in the past, she says, “I have got Bollywood offers, too, but didn’t sign them. Before entering these spaces, you should know who you are working with. I am a baby in this industry, so I am using my head. It’s been five years now, whatever work I have done earlier, I don’t want to ruin it because of some XYZ. I don’t want to follow in someone’s footsteps, for example, being called for awards.”

On being asked to elaborate, she says, “I was nominated for an award recently. But I know what happens (behind the scenes). They are like, ‘Kisi ko bhi de do yaar’. There are so many actors doing a great job, but people sitting on the judges’ panel only see kiske followers zyaada hain, kitni baar woh chhape hain (who has more followers, and gets more coverage). Earlier, people used to come into the acting industry from drama schools, and today, anyone can become an actor. TikTokers will get awards, not talented actors. I don’t want to get into that gang,” says Renee.

She is currently set to make her debut on the web medium. On what prompted her to take the offer up, Renee says, “Before doing this, I had said no to four web series, because of the bold content. It has 12 episodes, and features top actors. I am in two of them.

The first, Age 69, is with Sudhir Pandeyji, and the other is with Parag Tyagi. Though I had said no to bold scenes earlier, I did one for this, because the director is someone with whom I had worked in the initial phase of my career. He put me in such a comfortable position, and helped me in those scenes.”
