ARJUN WILL NEVER DISOWN A FILM

Box office hits or duds — all the films that he has been part of are special for Arjun Kapoor

He has had his share of hits and misses in Bollywood but the actor proudly takes ownership of all his films. Arjun Kapoor says he does not want to remove or “disown” any of his films from his career trajectory. While Arjun tasted success with films such as Ishaqzaade (2012), 2 States (2014), Ki & Ka (2016), and his latest release Panipat, he faced failures in Tevar (2015), Aurangzeb (2013) and Namaste England (2018).

So, would he like to remove any of his films from his filmography? “Never. I think no actor should never ever think like that. Which ever film I chose to do, I have to take ownership of it. It’s easy to say that success is mine and failure is not. I’m a team player. All my films are mine and ours. There’s no me in it. All my films are everybody’s who have worked on it. The result is not the matter... I will never ever be that person,” says Arjun.

The 34-year-old says he wants to be corrected if he ever becomes a person like that. “Because any film that I have done, I have been paid for it. I’ve not done anybody a favour. I’ve been given options to choose from scripts. They not working out can be for various reasons .... You should never disown your own choice. You made it out of your will. I will never disown a film,” he says.

In a career spanning just seven years, Arjun has worked with some of the finest filmmakers of the industry, such as Ashutosh Gowariker, Homi Adajania and Abhishek Varman. However, he feels that he hasn’t achieved much yet.“I feel that I’m starting all over again. The reset button has been pressed again. Every year I feel that I have to start afresh. I’m trying to make sure that I can be the best I can be. I’ve not achieved anything yet. I’m still learning,” he says.

Apart from his work, the actor’s personal life has constantly made headlines. Does this vigilance stifle him? He says,“When I signed up to be an actor, I knew this would happen. Anybody who is not fine with the invasion of privacy is in the wrong profession. In a fast selling world of social media, this cannot be stopped. I can either be angry about it or I can embrace it by saying who I am. Personal life is not going to go away be it for Virat-Anushka’s or Ranveer-Deepika or be it for anyone. What happens in an actor’s life is as exciting as their films to the common man. Now, we can’t change that over night. I am not the first or the last.”
