‘I’m not a mechanical actor, need to understand emotions’

Ronit Bose Roy enjoys treading uncharted grounds — after his tryst with Telugu films (he did Jai Lava Kusa in 2017 with Jr. NTR), he is now set to make his Tamil film debut. And, this time, he is collaborating with Jayam Ravi for Bhoomi, which is helmed by Lakshman. The actor is excited about the project and has been posting photos with his co-star. He also gave his fans a glimpse of his salt-and-pepper look in the film.

“While the work culture is wonderful, I’m facing a little difficulty with the language. I’m not a mechanical actor, I need to understand the words and emotions before I start working. Emoting in a foreign language isn’t easy, but I really wanted to do this film,” he says.

Ronit says that Lakshman is a friend, and that he always wanted to team up with him. “This film brings to light a lot of issues related to rural India, especially farming. We know about farmer suicides, the scarcity of water they face, but people don’t know a history behind it. The script highlights all of these,” adds the 54year-old, who has a string of films and web shows coming up this year.

Besides Tamil and Telugu, Ronit has also done films in Bengali. His last film in Tollywood was Roktobondhon in 2003. “Bengali films aren’t working out for me. I missed one opportunity of working with Rituparno Ghosh, I wish it worked out. I really want to work with the likes of Gautam Ghose,” shares the actor.

Ronit gives importance to work-life balance and had earlier spoken on how his life revolves around his children, Aador and Agastya. “My daughter wants to do filmmaking, she even enjoys writing. My son is good at a lot of things. But they’re just 14 and 12, so I can’t talk about their future. If they want to become actors, I would obviously give them tips. Good education and values are the things I can impart, the rest depends on them,” he says.
