When pure music greets the day

Eminent flautist Pt. Ronu Majumdar mesmerized the audience and broke the dawn by his soulful rendition at the open stage at Qaiserbagh Bardari during the ongoing Mahendra Sanatkada Festival on Sunday morning.

He performed Raag Mangal Bhairav, a bandish, a ‘piece’ In Love With Kashmir and Bollywood song Kuch Na Kaho, in which he had played the flute to RD Burman’s compositio­n.

His wizardry with the instrument took the select gathering to a different world, blending the sound of the Saher beautifull­y, turning the whispering of the hours to pure music for one’s ears.

He was supported by Subhajyoti Guha on tabla and Kalpesh on flute.

Majumdar’s music is rooted in the Maihar Gharana and he is among the most popular musicians on this instrument, and is especially popular with the younger generation for his creative improvisat­ions. The fifth edition of HCL Lucknow City Marathon started at 6.30 am with 21 km marathon. Actor and fitness icon Milind Soman, minister Chetan Chauhan and other prominent Lucknowite­s flagged off the marathon at 1090 Crossing.

Around 6,000 registrati­ons were done for the marathon and enthusiast­ic Lucknowite­s reached the venue before time. The event started with Zumba and other fitness activities which provided a perfect warm-up before the event. The event happened in four categories 21 km half marathon, 10 km speed challenge, 5 km joy of running and 5 km women traditiona­l walk.

The winner of 21 km half marathon was Ravindra Kumar who followed by Sujan Rai and Biraj Shrestha. In females, on the top three list were Aparna Vishwakarm­a, Anjali Chaurasia and Balbinder Kaur. Organised by Tabono Sports its founder and Ultraman Abhishek Mishra congratula­ted the winners of different categories.

“This is an initiative to promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle among the people of Lucknow. We hope more citizens are encouraged to take on healthy pursuits that support work-life balance and self-developmen­t. This is the fifth edition of the Marathon and I am happy to see a great number of runners turn out to participat­e,” said Sanjay Gupta, corporate vice president HCL Technologi­es.

Majumdar also participat­ed in the Festival of India in Moscow and in Asiad ‘82 in New Delhi.The cold did not stop the Luckow people to come and be a part of the enchanting set-up at dawn.
