Covid-19: DU students take protests online
The ongoing lockdown brought along the freedom of enjoying late baths and yawning around in pajamas and unwillingly getting into humdrum of household chores. The routine blurred the boundary between weekdays and weekends for all of us.
The monotony was getting on my nerves and then one day while spray cleaning the mirror of my antique dresser I saw a disheveled me for the first time in all these days. Looking at the mirror had been an ever so pleasant experience for a trendy and fashion conscious person like me until that day when it really made me feel awful.
And it was that day I told myself, ‘Just don’t let this lockdown change you for the worst.’
I well understand that a fine dressed self inspires productivity but the concept of work from home and global video conferencing has become the new normal so decking up has actually become a waste for many. Sitting with half dressed selves in front of our laptops for meetings is the new smart dressing norm.
But as a designer I know clothing, styling does give one confidence and adding colours to our dressing does lead to mood uplift. I did let the creative me take over and tried numerous mix and match trends along accessorizing nuances.
So as now we heading towards a bit of normalcy it’s time to pick up those long forgotten spaghetti tops and beautify them with floral scarves to add a

Psychologist Kanika Khosla says, “Whatever little social activities old people had with others, such as morning walks, laughter club or yoga, have come to a halt. But this is not the time to sulk. Video calls can help them see and talk to their friends and family members.”
She considers balcony meets as a great idea for multistorey buildings and suggests holding restaurant or pub, the quality of the conversation on a date comes into focus. “The term protection will be used for masks now, and instead of going to restaurants and pubs, couples would prefer staying indoors. Protests from home are the new way of life for Delhi University (DU) students who are no longer able to hold protest marches, sit-downs, or express their angst creatively through nukkad nataks (street plays). The lockdown has witnessed quite a few student unions asking students to take to social media and voice their resistance against some of the recent decisions taken by the varsity.
“Twitter trends are the way to go for now, as it’s not safe to come outside and protest. Therefore, we moved online using the twitter trend #DUwithSolutions, inviting students to voice their problems and opinions, and also find a solution to it all,” says Akshit Dahiya, president, Delhi University Students Union. But the shift has in no way dampened the students’ resolve and activism. “Even though we might be holding placards from the comfort of our homes, the jazba is full-on DU style!” says Alka Yadav, a DU student.

House, who is part of another online protest trending as #DUforEquality, with regards to the women’s hostel curfew rules, adds,“Due to Covid-19, the women of Dhaka Complex have decided to continue their protest through online portals. We’ll be back, we’ll stand up for what we believe in and not stop.”
