Actor Karan Mehra and his family have recently been granted anticipatory bail in the domestic violence case filed by his wife, actor Nisha Rawal. Mehra comments, “It’s a great relief for me and my family, after so many months of fighting against the false accusations levied against us.”

On May 31, Rawal accused Mehra of domestic violence and alleged that he withdrew over ₹1 crore from her bank account. Mehra was arrested for allegedly assaulting her, and soon released on bail. Later, a case was registered against Mehra, his parents and younger brother, under sections 498-A, 377, 406, 323, 504 & 506 r/w Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code. “These sections mean cruelty with respect to dowry, sexual assault, violence, etc... But my parents haven’t even visited

Mumbai in the last two years,” explains Mehra.

He asserts that everyone was falsely implicated in the case and it has been a difficult time for them. He adds, “Thankfully, the court granted a judgement in our favour. Being granted anticipatory bail means that I, my parents and brother will not be arrested in the alleged false cases filed against us by Nisha. I have proof of my innocence, which I’ll show in court. The laws for such cases are favourable for women. So this took long as one doesn’t get anticipatory bail in these matters... We’re ready to fight.”

Mehra tells us that there has been no follow-up on the first FIR filed for domestic violence. He says, “It started with that, then other sections were levied. Nisha implicated us in her second FIR just so there’s further pressure on me. Our next step is to fight the cases.”

The couple tied the knot in 2012 and have a four-year-old son, Kavish.
