‘Writing as a profession can be glamorous and rewarding’

The Better English Expression Society (BEES) of La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow, organised a workshop on Creative Writing: An insight to the Power of Pen’ at the Farida Abraham Memorial Auditorium. More than 200 senior school students attended the event.

UK-based author who is known to have written books like Someone to Love, (In) eligible Bachelors, I DO I DO, Ruchita Misra, regaled the audience with an insightful and entertaini­ng session. She highlighte­d the importance of Creative Writing in today’s times and shared her journey in the world of writing. She briefed the students about career opportunit­ies and shared several strategies for publishing articles and books.

Addressing the students Misra said, “There is a writer in all of us. And we should try penning down our thoughts to understand what genre as a writer we can explore. Writing as a profession can be both glamorous and rewarding, but it demands utmost perseveran­ce.”

The highlight of the session was the PlotBuildi­ng drill, where Misra asked the students and staff members to give ideas on a genre of their choice. The plot of a romantic- thriller book was built within a short period.

The event was successful­ly organised by the English Club of the college, under the guidance of college principal, A Dass and the club head Ishita Basu assisted by students like Diya Shukla. Aadya, Riddhima Gurnani, Maham Fatima, Adisri Kapoor, Janhavi Pathak along with others. Staff and students worked diligently for conducting the event successful­ly.

Some students and teachers who gave interestin­g ideas for the plot were rewarded with signed copies of author’s books.*
