Body-con or pro: Dress deciding factor!

- Naina.arora@htdigital.in

Fitted well to accentuate the curves, bodycon dresses are making many heads turn. Donning it to celebrate a woman’s body, there’s much to love about these dresses. Be it announcing pregnancy, such as in the case of actors Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Natasha Sharma Redij, who have chosen bodysuits, or a red carpet event, such as that of actor Janhvi Kapoor, in a glittery avatar, bodycon dresses are making all the noise. Although not always for the right reasons, because while the mums-to-be got all the love and luck on social media, Kapoor was massively trolled for her choice of attire and even called ‘Local Kim Kardashian’. This compels one to decode the bodycon phenomenon, as its popularity continues to grow.

As far as the uncalled for trolling is concerned, designer Anju Modi opines, “I don’t understand why anybody should troll [a choice of dress].” And designer Rina Dhaka feels Kapoor looked quite “hot”.

“One should have the confidence to carry body-hugging silhouettes,” feels designer Rahul Mishra, adding, “In the time that we’re navigating through, individual style is becoming a prominent factor in the way we express ourselves. I believe it’s about the way one wishes to see themselves in the world and what they want to say through their sense of clothing.” Experts share that this fashion trend is making waves because “nowadays everything is about breaking the rules”, says stylist Vikram Seth, adding, “There are a lot of people who want to try different things and body type is not an issue.”

Designer Reynu Taandon agrees. “It’s about being body positive. I’m seeing this trend growing. Women are having fun while also going through a sensitive period [such as pregnancy] in their lives,” she says.
