For the cause of migratory birds

To celebrate the World Migratory Bird Day a series of events are being held under the Biodiversity Week organised by Prithvi Innovations in association with Uttar Pradesh State Biodiversity Board at Maharishi University of Information and Technology.

Participants expressed themselves through street plays and dance dramas in the context of conservation of migratory birds through very beautiful artefacts and presentations, which were appreciated. Special performances were given by participants of various school and universities.

The programme was coordinated by Dr Rashmi Chaturvedi and Anuradha Gupta. Eminent biodiversity expert, Dr Manohar Alam Khalid, head of department of environmental sciences,

Integral University was present as the chief guest of the programme.

He gave important information about migratory birds and this year’s theme, ‘Dim the Lights’ and emphasised the need to reduce artificial lights and also said how migratory birds have to face many challenges due to climate change, habitat loss, use of pesticides and artificial* light. Uttar Pradesh Biodiversity Board secretary B Prabhakar motivated all participants and invited them to unite and think about migratory birds.

Another highlight of the event was the attractive zero waste prizes and gifts, such as stone paperweights, upcycled planters, puppets of migratory birds made from crochet, made by the rural team.
