Chandan K Anand on his latest show receiving mixed reviews: It is ahead of its time, out of our league

- Sneha Biswas

Actor Chandan K Anand, who plays a key role in the web series Class, isn’t too bothered by the mixed reviews the show has been receiving. “Yes, [I know that] mixed reviews have come after the release because what we see [in the series] is out of our league. It is ahead of its time,” he says.

In the Hindi adaptation of the Spanish series Elite, Chandan plays the role of a wealthy Delhibased businessman whose daughter is murdered under mysterious circumstances. Calling his experience of working on the show “amazing”, Chandan shares, “Mera achha role hai. My character is well distributed, crafted and performed. It has everyone’s contribution, from the director to the costume designer. I have given my soul to it.”

The series, helmed by director Ashim Ahluwalia, touches upon several issues plaguing the society, including casteism and elitism. Chandan describes Class asa “mirror to the society”. “So many people are watching it and our purpose is fulfilled. This is reality. This is what is happening nowadays,” says the Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020) actor.

Unlike his character in Class, the 42-year-old doesn’t like to attend star-studded parties.“You are secluded when you don’t indulge in alcohol at parties. For me, it’s a time waste. You might get work by socialising at these parties, but I feel good work will find you [nevertheless].” The show stars actors like Gurfateh Singh Pirzada, Moses Koul, Zeyn Shaw and Anjali Sivaraman, among others.

The Love Aaj Kal (2009) actor will be next seen in director Siddharth Anand’s upcoming action thriller Fighter, starring Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor. It recently wrapped its first schedule in Assam.*
