I was taken aback by how kind everyone is in India, says Chelsea

- Sugandha Rawal CUTLER, CHELSEA Singer-songwriter

Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined my music would bring me to India,” says Chelsea Cutler, who was in the country for her maiden gig here. The American singersongwriter performed at a music festival in Mumbai in the last week of January, and she is glad to have found an audience in India.

“It is so cool to be in India for a gig. I was literally on my Maps app all along, staring at the little blue dots showing that I was here. I just couldn’t believe it! After the pandemic, it really feels liberating to travel, after being isolated and stagnant for so long,” she tells us.

The musician, who released her debut album How to Be Human in 2020, was pleasantly surprised to see people turn up for her gig. She confesses, “I’ve never performed in India or, for that matter, any Asian country. I couldn’t believe anyone would show up for me here.”

Having first tasted success in 2018, with her song Your Shirt, Cutler has since risen to fame and enjoys a loyal fan following. She recently released two singles — Walk Me Home and

Men On The Moon.

During the time she spent in India, the 25-year-old spotted a stark difference in the culture here and that in America, and this is something that will stay fresh in her mind for a long time.

“Everyone has just been incredibly kind. That is something Americans aren’t always. Americans can be a little focused on what they’re doing. I was really taken aback by how kind everyone is here. It’s wonderful,” she concludes, with a promise to make an attempt to know more about Indian music and collaborate with an artiste here.
