ctor Esha Deol Takhtani is taking it slow and steady, but is gradually returning to work. Last seen in the web series Rudra: The Edge of Darkness (2022), Takhtani says, “It was a great project to come back with and it got great viewership. Everyone got to know that I am back after motherhood [break].”

The actor, who welcomed her daughters in 2017 and 2019 respectively, will be returning to the big screen with the feature film Main, after nearly eight years. She did, however, do short films during this period, including

Cakewalk and Ek Duaa. “People sort of rub it in the face — the whole tag of being an actor-mother. There are so many working mums; I have grown up with one. I am also a working mum,” says Takhtani, who is the daughter of veteran actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini.

The 41-year-old goes on to confess that she cannot stay away from the set for too long: “I love my work and I make time for it. It is all about balancing.”

Ask Takhtani if the dismal box-office figures of many recent Hindi films worry her — especially now as she prepares for her theatrical release — and she says, “It is a great concern for every artiste. Our film industry is a huge part of our Indian culture. You want it to be stable. But, there is a phase that most industries go through, where you sort of revamp and restructure, and that is what is happening with ours. I am sure we will come out of it,” she concludes.
