There isn’t much work coming my way, says Shamita

Actor Shamita Shetty has spent over 20 years in the industry, but often wonders why she is not considered for more projects. “There isn’t that much [work] coming my way. I’m hoping that after my last film, The Tenant, things will change and I don’t need to wait another two years for a project,” she says.

The reason for this dearth of work, the 44-year-old says, is a “mystery” to her. “I’m hoping that people see some talent in me and give me something nice in the future, because I am very greedy for work. As an artiste, I feel I haven’t explored my talent enough. There is so much that I would like to do,” Shetty tells us.

The sister of actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Shetty made her Bollywood debut with Mohabbatein in 2000. She went on to do films such as Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002), Zeher (2005) and Cash (2007). But, despite a successful debut, her film career failed to take off as expected.

“I have been around for around 20 years. The journey has not been easy. Sometimes it’s not just about the money, it’s also about an artiste being able to express their creativity. It has been very frustrating for me to not be able to do that enough. I’ve barely had any film releases,” she rues.

The actor, who was also a part of the web show Black Widows (2020), says the challenges she faced in life so far have made her a stronger person. And going forward, she hopes things will change for the better.

“I believe in myself and in my talent. I have hope. If I didn’t have hope, I wouldn’t keep going. With every film, I’ve learned how much I love performing. It’s a different high for me,” Shetty signs off.
