Rapper Arpan Kumar Chandel, better known as King, announced his collaboration with American singer Nick Jonas on Wednesday. The two have come together for Afterlife ,an “enhanced version” of King’s 2022 chartbuster Maan Meri Jaan. “This has been in the works for a while,” says King, referring to the collaboration. He adds that Jonas and he “connected very easily”. Talking about this Indian-American collaboration — a first for Jonas —

King shares, “I’ve always been a fan of Nick’s sound and music. I’ve heard his track Bacon on loop multiple times. Nick is extremely humble. Our conversations started with us appreciating each other’s music. When artistes appreciate each other’s work, it’s motivating.”

When King shared a post on social media to announce the collaboration, it was flooded with congratulatory messages in no time, one of them being, “Priyanka Bhabhi ki khaas farmaish pe (referring to actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Nick’s wife)”. Mention this to King and the 24-year-old laughs: “Even I read that comment. Ab farmaish [pe or not] I cannot comment [on that]. But yes, I did interact with her. She is such a wonderful, humble and talented person. She’s an idol to look up to. We connected over music and how India has seen fantastic pop stars over the years and continues to do so.”

As for Maan Meri Jaan, King admits that the song is the biggest hit in his discography. “It has brought in so many new fans and this motivates me to give them bigger and better experiences. A lot of newer and exciting opportunities have also come my way,” the musician ends.
