Musical start to the five-day Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Awadh Mahotsava
Padma Shri awardee Ustad Ahmad Hussain and Mohammad Hussain gave the fiveday Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Awadh Mahotsava a musical start with the choicest of ghazals. Being held at the UP Sangeet Natak Academy the duo opened the concert with Gaiye Ganpati jag vandan.
They then presented the last king of Awadh Wazid Ali Shah’s ghazal Ilahi koi hawa ka jhonka, dikha de chera uda de anchal followed by Nida Fazli’s ghazal Jaane kya kaha hai aapakee aankhon ne. The duo then mesmerised with their popular numbers started with Veer Zara’s famous song Aaya tere dar par dewana. Followed by Nazar mujse milate, Jab pyar nahi hai and Main hawa hoon kahan watan mere.
“Lucknow is one of our favourite places and we love performing here. The audience here is very knowledgeable and have a very good understanding of ghazals and lyrics,” says the duo.
Earlier, the event was inaugurated by inaugurated by Awanish Awasthi advisor to chief minister Yogi Adityanath in presence of principal secretary culture and tourism Mukesh Meshram and UPSNA secretary Tarun Raj.
The musical proceeding opened with ghazal singer Meneka Mishra from Kanpur. Kathak artiste Maya Kulshrestha from Noida with her troupe presented ballet Krishna Ek Rakshak in which they presented between love of Radha, Meera and Draupadi.
She was followed by
devotional song act by Lucknow’s Kishor Chaturvedi.
The event has been organised by UP Tourism and UP Sangeet Natak Academy.
Besides the culture event, the festival is turning to be a shopping hub with apparel, handicraft as well as food stalls that have been set up on the lush green lawns of the academy.
