BSNL’s new OFC network to act as backup for existing lines
LUCKNOW: To provide unhindered services to its subscribers, stateowned telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam (abbreviated BSNL), is adding a new optical fibre cable (OFC) network that would act as a backup for the existing lines in case of technical snags during Metro digging work, slated to commence by the year end.
The new OFC network, being laid on the outer ring, covers all the major exchanges of the city, BSNL (UP East circle) chief general manager Sunil Parihar told Hindustan Times.
“It would act as a backup line. If at all there is a problem in any one exchange, the back up system will help in clearing the telecommunication traffic. Had this plan not been put into place, then due to road digging (during Metro digging work) thousands of telephone would have gone out of order and Internet services would have collapsed,” he said.
Half of the work to connect the major exchanges in the district is already over, Parihar told HT.
“The task of completing the remaining work will be over by September, weeks before Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) starts digging work,” he added.
He said that the BSNL authorities had met the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) and procured a route map. Accordingly, the outer ring optical fibre cable network was laid, so that subscribers could continue to enjoy uninterrupted services.
